Last fall, Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, and Craig Hatkoff, the founders of the Tribeca Film Festival, in association with the acclaimed Tribeca-based Off-Broadway theater company Drama Dept., launched the Tribeca Theater Festival. The Festival highlight was The Downtown Plays, a production of short plays about life in and around lower Manhattan, directed by John Rando (Urinetown). Two of The Downtown Plays, Paul Rudnick’s Pride & Joy and Jon Robin Baitz’s My Beautiful Goddamn City return tonight -– with their original casts and director –- for a one-night-only performance for this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. This evening will also include a new short play by Douglas Carter Beane, directed by Christopher Ashley.
